Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is in Nelapattu village which is located on the East Coast about 20km north of Pulicat in the Nellore district and it is just 50km away from Chennai. The Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is one of the largest pelican habitats in Southeast Asia.

What is more exciting about the visit to this sanctuary is that you get to see large variety of rare and endangered species here like Grey Pelicans, Open billed Storks, Cormorants, Spoon bills , Night Herons. Also the birds like egrets, terns which find their ideal perching place here among the trees.

There is a fresh water irrigation tank at Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary with Barringtonia plants which can resist inundations for a longer time in the tank bed.
